EMP Collaborates with BAE Systems on Next Generation Electronic Cooling Solutions for Hybrid Energy Transit Bus Market
Controllability and product robustness were key elements to BAE Systems selection of EMP’s Advanced Thermal & Oil Management Technologies and Systems.

Monday, October 6th 2008 - Escanaba, Michigan, USA To meet the needs of energy-conscious municipal transit operators, Engineered Machined Products Inc. (EMP) announced today that it is in close collaboration with BAE Systems on next generation thermal management solutions for the rapidly growing hybrid energy municipal transit bus market.

EMP has developed a robust custom cooling system for hybrid electronics and motors. Designed and tested to operate under the harshest of environments, the next generation solution was specifically developed for BAE Systems’ needs. The cooling system introduces fully- controllable, robust long-life electric fans along with brushless electric water & oil pumps.

“BAE Systems is a market leader in the utilization of unique advanced electronics and integrated electronic solutions,’ said David Allen, executive vice president for EMP. By offering controllability features to electric fans and pumps, we enabled BAE Systems to have greater flexibility to meet specific cooling needs associated with hybrid technology,” Allen said.

Jody Lanfranchi, BAE Systems program manager, said the company is focused on the development of a new hybrid configuration for introduction into the municipal transit market in late 2009. “To that end, we’ve been pleased to collaborate with EMP to capitalize on their innovative thermal management expertise and next generation technologies.”
